I'd like opinions on the reason why Ichiro got himself ejected on this strike call.

Here's my opinion
In drawing a line, he crossed a line.

Probably a deal with the Japanese advertisers to "butch" up his image a bit!!  Maybe he'll start hocking Harley's in Kyoto!!  Ichiro "Badass" Suzuki!!

I don't believe Ichiro was thrown out for the strike call.  I believe he made a comment to the ump about the strike zone but in no way seemed to be trying to show him up.  Then the umpire signals that he's out a second time more emphatically while trying to show Ichiro up which leads to his drawing the line and getting ejected.  I felt that Ichiro was just retaliating for the ump showing him up.

Correct me if I'm wroing, but I was always taught that you can voice your opinion to the ump as long as you kept it quiet or contained to basically you, the ump and a fielder if he's right there with you and the ump.  Ichiro appeared to have done that.  I felt that the respect that normally would be given at that moment was broken by the umpire.

To illustrate what I'm saying, look at how far out of the strikezone where Ichiro drew his line.  It's what, two inches outside - tops?  He knows that gets called and wasn't trying to over exagerate where the pitch was to back himself up.  I really believe Ichiro got ejected trying to make a point on how the umpire conducted himself, not the pitch.

From watching the play again, the umpire seemed to be using a normal mechanic for a 3rd strike. He brought his hand up and punched down. There was no disrespect in his actions. As for the conversation..It probably went something like this...
Umpire Strike 3
Ichiro..That was outside.
Umpire it was there. strike three
Ichiro..That pitch was out here. points with bat and marks the area
Player ejected..
Like you say MOSH a little discussion does not get you ejected..drawing a line for all to see...Buh Bye

That was Runge's "caught looking" mechanic.  There was no attempt to try to show up Ichiro.

So you don't think that as Ichiro has turned around and is saying something to the PU that having the punchout part being directed right at Ichiro should not be interpreted as trying to show him up?
