Reply with quote | #1 | I just thought of something in regards to the levels that require everyone to bat.
Suppose...
The team that I am coaching is down 6-5 in the bottom of the last inning, I am batting 14 players and my number 12, 13 and 14 hitters would be the next in line to bat and they can't hit. My 12 hitter strolls up to the plate and gets himself tossed and the 13 batter does the same. The 14 batter starts making his way to the box and he's already yapping. How would you guys handle this situation? (-: |

Reply with quote | #2 | Luckily I have never been put in this situation. However I know the umpire has a shocker of a rule to use on a team that wants to play that way...FORFEIT! When the coach comes out asking why. Tell him to look up rules 4.15 (b) and (e).

if a coach is trying to pull this off in a league where they are using the fair play "everyone bats" rule, I have always thought castration was a viable option!!! |

Reply with quote | #4 | i'm just getting home from work and do not have my rule book handy, but don't they forfeit when they can't field 9 defensive players? So technically while on offense they haven't forfeited yet for not having enough players? |

Shawn, you have the rule right that a forfeit would occur if they can't field 9 players. But the original message states there are 14 players on the line up so when you get rid of three..14-3=?? That's right, 11 players, well above the minimum 9 players. Hmm and you teach what subject??? lol |

Just don't toss them! I know it's tough to listen to ME say something like that but if you know what they're doing just sit there and laugh. If they don't get in the box and keep jawing at you, call the demand strike on them. You can get an out one way or another. |

I was thinking forfeit myself as well, but I was wondering if we would eject the coach as well and write it up stating the conduct or whether that would open a can of worms during the appeal process because I'm deciding what the coach was doing and not leaving it as coincidence that two or three players happened to get tossed in this situation. |
